Rasode mein kaun tha?
If you are an avid social media user, we are sure you’re just as guilty as us for humming “main thi, tum thi. Main thi, tum thi, kaun tha” in the most inappropriate of situations. This trend swiftly made its way into our lives when Yashraj Mukhate, a sound engineer, turned a scene from the show Saath Nibhaana Saathiya into a fun jam, inspiring countless hilarious memes on social media.

‘What is Binod?’ was one of the most searched phrases in India in 2020, thanks to a recurring comment that took over social media. It all started with a user named Binod Tharu writing “Binod” in the comments section of a video shared on a YouTube channel called Slayy Point. It came into the limelight when the creators of the YouTube channel talked about the weird comments they received on their videos and led to a chain of “Binod” comments on social media.
LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Tinder
This trend, started by American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, took over the Instagram and Twitter feed of netizens in early 2020. Parton shared a collage of four pictures and labelled them as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Tinder. The trend soon picked up, with various Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities sharing their versions of the trend.
Coffin Dance memes
Another popular meme making it to the list is the coffin dance. The meme video, a dancing clip of Ghanian pallbearers set to a 2010 EDM track titled Astonomia is from 2017, but gained popularity this year. The creativity of the trend not only took social media by storm but also spread laughter through its real-world recreations for awareness drives in the pandemic.
2020 mood calendar
The pandemic turned 2020 into something nobody was prepared for. As the uncertain year progressed, people experienced various moods, inspiring the mood calendar in August. The trend was started by actor Reese Witherspoon, after which several Bollywood stars including Kajol, Madhuri Dixit, and Swara Bhaskar also jumped on the bandwagon.
