Disney fires 'The Mandalorian' Star Gina Carano over controversial posts
One of the posts shared by Carano, who essayed the role of bounty hunter Cara Dune in Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian”, compared the ongoing political climate in the US to Nazi Germany.
Actor Gina Carano has been fired from the Star Wars universe, Disney and Lucasfilm have announced. The action was taken in light of a number of controversial remarks made by the actor on social media.
One of the posts shared by Carano, who essayed the role of bounty hunter Cara Dune in Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian”, compared the ongoing political climate in the US to Nazi Germany.
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don't realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she had posted.
She later shared another post on Instagram that said, “Expecting everyone you encounter to agree with every belief or view you hold is f---ing wild.”
Her posts enraged users, and soon they started tagging creator Jon Favreau and Lucasfilm in their tweets with hashtags #FireGinaCarano.
Following the outrage, Disney-owned Lucasfilm, in a statement, announced that Carano was no longer a part of the show. The statement said, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
